WHAT IS PUVA PHOTO THERAPY?

PUVA is a combination of Psoralen (Pj and Long Wave Ultraviolet Radiation (UVA) that is used to treat many skin disorders.
"Psoralen" is a drug taken orally, to render the skin to be more responsive to Ultra Violet light.

WHO ALL CAN BENEFIT FROM PUVA?

Patients suffering from

  • Moderate to severe cases of Leucoderma (White patches), Cytaneous

  • Severe disabling Psoriasis. Refractory Atopic Dermatitis .Urticaria Pigmintosa

  • Severe Lichen Planus .Aloecia .Uncontrolled Pruritus. Morphoea

HOW SAFE IS THIS TREATMENT?

It can be safely given to patients with controlled dose and duration, determined by the specialists.

HOW LONG DOES THIS TREATMENT TAKE?

Generally 2-3 exposures per week is considered necessary or a duration to be determined by the consultant. After the initial period, the frequency can be reduced to one treatment everyone to three weeks.

WHAT IS SO SPACIAL ABOUT THE PUVA INSTALLED AT CMRI?

It is a whole body photo therapy unit . This unit consists of both UVA lamps, NBUVB lamps and a combined therapy unit of both UVA and NBUVB lamps. These lamps are connected through copper chokes, long life starters. High quality imported Aluminium mirror type Zig Zag reflectors to achieve maximum irradiation The unit is protected against shock by ELCB The unit has a large door to ensure easy entry and exit.
